RCMP Youth Academy
The RCMP Youth Academy is remarkable program where up to ten SD38 students may apply to participate in a simulated RCMP training environment for eight days at Camp Stillwood (near Chilliwack).
The Youth Academy is a partnership between five different school districts and their local RCMP detachments. If interested, details about the program are as follows:
- applications are usually available in November (see your school counsellor or call the SD38 Career Programs Office for these)
- applicants must successfully complete each phase of the selection process (including an RCMP interview, criminal record check and physical fitness test)
- students will receive instruction and lectures in the areas of law, social and communication skills, physical training, as well as police tactics and role play
- cost of the program is approximately $900 (non-refundable) and covers uniform, meals, lodging, study guide and workbook
The RCMP is a fabulous learning opportunity, especiallly for those interested in exploring a career in emergency services and/or law. If you have any questions, contact your school counsellor, Career Information Advisor, RCMP Liaison Officer or the SD38 Career Programs Office.
