Program Description

This program runs FULL TIME from February to June (semester 2) at the MELVILLE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS (KPU Surrey) with the following courses:

  • MRKT 1199  – Introduction to Marketing

    Students will learn the fundamentals of marketing and explore the relationships between companies, their customers and their competition. They will examine concepts that are integral to the field of marketing including marketing environment, customer behaviour, marketing research, product analysis, distribution, pricing strategies and promotion. They apply these concepts in solving marketing problems.

  • CMNS 1140  – Introduction to Professional Communications

    Students will learn how to analyze context and audience, determine purpose, message content, visual design and media in order to create written workplace messages that can be received, understood, used and retrieved with speed and accuracy.

  • BUSI 1215  – Organizational Behaviour

    Students will learn how the attributes of individuals and groups affect organizational performance and the work environment. Students will explore key theories and concepts of organizational behaviour and develop foundational skills to working effectively in groups or teams. In addition, students will practice formal and informal presentation skills in this course.

  • ACCT 1110  – Introductory Financial Accounting 1

    Students will learn to prepare financial statements using Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Students will be introduced to the accounting cycle, accrual accounting concepts, and the asset side of the balance sheet, specifically cash, receivables, inventory, and long-lived assets for service and merchandising companies operating as a sole proprietorship.

  • You have the potential to earn 4 high school courses (16 senior credits towards graduation) and 4 post-secondary courses, which are university transferable!

What do I need prior to program start?

  • Ability to work independently, distance learn and work in a group
  • Excellent attendance
  • Completion of English 12 (67% or higher)
  • Completion of Math 11 (67% or higher)
  • Be registered in a Richmond SD38 school in the school year you are taking the program
  • An application form: see the Career Programs slat board at your school or click on the link near the top of this page

When do I start?

  • Accepted students start full time in February (applications are due the year before as the post secondary seats need to be reserved ahead of time)
  • This program runs to the end of June
