Auto Service Technician Program
The SD38 Youth Train in Trades Auto Service Technician Foundation program, in partnership with BCIT, trains students in basic theory and offers hands on shop experience enabling students to become competent in basic automotive technician tasks. Students will learn to disassemble, inspect and assemble engines and accessories, cooling systems, transmissions and clutches, drive lines, braking and suspension systems. Automotive technicians employ logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical as well as electrical/electronic vehicle systems. Students in this Foundation program will receive the first of four levels towards their Red Seal certification as well as 450 work-based training hours toward their apprenticeship.

Program Details
- 30 weeks full-time; February – September (2nd semester and summer)
- Students attend BCIT full-time with students from other school districts and adults
- Receive 32 grade 12 credits (8 courses) and BCIT credits
- Earn level 1 technical training with SkilledTradesBC (Auto Service Technician) as well as 450 work-based hours
