Painter & Decorator (Commercial)

The SD38 Youth Train in Trades Painter and Decorator (Commercial) program provides students with the theory and practical skills necessary to enter the painting and finishing trade.  Students gain an understanding of the painting industry.  They learn about common coatings, surface preparation, tools used in the trade and airless spray.  Students learn about industry safety, including: respirator training, fall protection, ladder and scaffold training and W.H.M.I.S.  Upon successful completion of this program, along with the required work experience, students will receive the first of three levels towards their Red Seal certification.

Painter/Decorator Information - Finishing Trades Institute of BC (Webpage)

Program Details:

  • Six weeks full-time; mid-June –  end of July  (during the summer)
  • Students attend the Finishing Trades Institute with students from other school districts and adults.  (five minute walk from the Scott Road Skytrain in Surrey)
  • Receive four grade 12 credits (one course)
  • Earn level 1 technical training with SkilledTradesBC (Painter and Decorator).
