Intro to Early Childhood Education
Applications for the Fall 2025 program are available HERE. These are due Tuesday, March 4, 2025 (see details on the first page of the application).
This program is only open to those currently in Grade 11 or to returning Grade 12's. Applicants will participate in an interview in the Spring with Langara College and SD38 Career Programs staff.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
- Course TUITION IS FREE!
- Successful students will EARN dual credits (high school and post-secondary) for t
he course(s) that support the continuation toward a full ECE certificate after high school. - In first semester (Sept - Dec), Grade 12 student participants will attend Langara College and take these four courses:
- ECED 1102 - Child Growth and Development I
- ECED 1112 - Exploring the Environment I
- ECED 1116 - Knowing the Individual Child
- ECED 1119 - Practicum I
- Students return to their home school in semester 2 of Grade 12 to take remaining high school course work
PRE-REQUISITES AND STUDENT ATTRIBUTES
- English 12 completed by program start (preferred); otherwise must have achieved a minimum of C+ in Language Arts 11
- ability to work both independently and in a group setting
- enjoys working with young children
- has excellent attendance
- registered in SD38 and entering Gr 12 in September
